Ok for the gents who does not know, I am giving oil paints a go. Also using a pretty "cheat" method of transferring composition (witch is done mostly digitally with photos, sceenshots and drawing board in PS) to canvas. But I know and you know I could draw it to, would just take a very looong time. Trying to find a method that will keep prices and time down while getting the best possible result.

Started working on 3 at the same time, this is good as need to allow fro drying times. Not so bad in the beginning using "Turps" but later using poppy oil for the clouds could take a long time to dry. All are just begun and only under painting and some basic layers are done so far. This is different than drawing and I am counting on a few moths until I am really done at least for the big one with the jasta 6 razors. Small one is Mai's Albatros from a slightly changed vintage aviator photo of their replica. And the middle one 90 x 30 cm is of the jasta 5 greentailed DVII's over the front with flak firing at them.

I hope you gent will enjoy watching this come real as much as I enjoy making them.

Wow!

Shouldn´t say it (I should prefere the Jasta 5 painting)....... but the painting of the Jasta 6 planes is wonderful.
Look at the pilots chatting. How realistic!

Cooooooooool.
I love it.

Tried to go for different moods in all of them. Using overall cold or warm will give connotations. The small with the Dv is more just a photo (it is based on a photo), but will try to convey speed and the captured moment, the joy of flying.

True talent, only masterworks such as these convey the feelings instantly upon sight, the bright clear colors in the J5 one on top would brighten ones mood, but the muted grays of the Fokkers speaks to the focus dedication and comraderie those pilots share in that moment.Just my humble opinion of these fine works of art.

Some more done on the small one, it is my test bed for the others, keep in mind that there will be many more layers of paint on top- This is the difference between oil and watercolour, you can do so much more in oils.

28 x 22 cm really quite small, smaller than a A4 paper size.
