S! guys. Great posts. May I make a request that you cite the sources of the photos? Viewers might appreciate knowing where these are found.
Prosit!

Yes of course, Sir!J5_Bäumer wrote:S! guys. Great posts. May I make a request that you cite the sources of the photos? Viewers might appreciate knowing where these are found.
The pictures can be found in:
Windsock International Vol.21 No4
The windsock booklets are great and highly recommended.
The datafiles, specials and the internationals.
Greetings

WILHELM LEHMANN
After Vorlander told be I am welcome to Jasta 5 and can register as AFP5_Lehmann here, I did some recherche on Wilhelm Lehmann and found this photo: Maybe he is it, on the Jasta 5 photos it`s hard to find him, never really made it.
But I found some really nice facts about him.
If you want we could make a thread where everybody is writing in the history of the pilot "he is" in here.
Idea? I could begin, waiting for permission!

Re: Jagdstaffel 5 Photos
I know from Bäumer (and others) it is well recommended to choose a nickname with a real historical background. I decided to choose a fictional name and I would like to explain why.
It happens, that I know some german navy-veterans from WWII. Whenever I talked to them about the internet, war-forums and wargames like Rise of Flight, I always raised incomprehension from those veterans. Not just about playing wargames but especially about the usage of names from people we didn`t know at all. All we know is what they wrote about them in books or written by themselves in some cases. Most of these guys still have families and offsprings. If you look in war- or gameforums (no matter what game, or Navy, Air Force or Army-Forums) you will find a lot of people who are using names like i.e. Dönitz, Prien, Churchill, Rickenbacker, Hartmann, Ball and many more. And isn`t it a small scandal if a guy with the nickname "churchill" in a forum writes i.e. "....Rickenbacker is an a...hole", just because he has a struggle with the fictional Rickenbacker in that forum? I know such a bad language will not be tolerated in the Jasta 5 forum (and that is good) but there are countless forums and nuts who don`t care about a little responsibility with historical names.
One of the veterans I mentioned before, asked me what I would say, if I am old or dead and somebody would use MY name to write nonsense or crap in internet forums. I had to answer him, that I wouldn`t like it.
Please don`t misunderstand me - I don`t convict anybody of you. I just try to get some understanding why I will not use a historical name, not in the Jasta 5 Forum, or in Rise of flight or somewhere else. I do what I do in my own name or with a fictional name and nobody gets hurt. If I shoot down an opponent in Rise of flight, then I have done it and not Manfred von Richthofen or Ernst Udet or Hermann Göring.

Yes, you`re completel right, I thought about this very much too. But I decided because I think I want to honor Lehmann a bit.
If I would not have choosen that name I would never know his so interesting story and stories of many others. For me it`s important
to keep this stories alive. But I do understand you Fugger, no quesiton.
I`m afraid it`s too complecated to discuss it here, maybe on TS one day Fritz?
